In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability and environmental protection, Mercator-S has become Serbia’s first “green” retail chain by exclusively using electricity generated from renewable sources provided by Elektroprivreda Srbije.

This initiative will significantly benefit the environment, with IDEA, Roda, and Mercator stores across Serbia projected to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by 33% in 2024 and by 50% in 2025.

Mercator-S’s transition to renewable energy is part of the Fortenova Group’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy aimed at fostering a sustainable future. Since 2021, the company has installed smart recycling presses for cans in 10 selected IDEA and Roda stores, resulting in the recycling of nearly 50,000 cans to date.
