In a bold stride for Serbia’s role in global space exploration, the nation has officially joined the ranks of the ShakthiSAT project—an ambitious international initiative aimed at empowering young girls across the world in the field of space research and technology.

The news was announced by Serbia’s Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation.

The project, spearheaded by the Indian startup Space Kidz India, is renowned for its pioneering efforts in satellite design, production, and launch. This endeavor seeks to ignite the scientific curiosity of young minds and inspire the next generation of female space explorers.

Monika Jurković, President of the Astronomical Society of Serbia, has been appointed as Serbia’s ambassador for this groundbreaking program. As the national coordinator, Jurković will oversee the implementation of STEM workshops for girls across Serbia. These workshops are designed to deepen their understanding of space research and technologies, including the intricate process of cube satellite (CubeSat) development.

The standout candidate from Serbia will be awarded a remarkable opportunity to join an elite group of 108 girls from various countries, who will convene in India to work on the development and eventual launch of a new satellite. This marks a significant milestone not only for the selected individual but also for Serbia’s burgeoning role in fostering international collaboration in space research.
