Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić and Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa have agreed to commence negotiations on an Investment Agreement between their countries, aiming to strengthen economic ties. 

The announcement was made following a meeting at the Serbian Government.

Minister Kamikawa highlighted the historical significance of the relationship, noting that Serbia and Japan are celebrating 142 years of diplomatic relations. “Serbia is an important partner for Japan in this region of the world,” she stated, emphasizing the growing economic collaboration.

“We are entering a period of even more intense economic cooperation between our two countries,” Kamikawa remarked, pointing out that 34 Japanese companies are currently operating successfully in Serbia. She reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to fostering strong relations and supporting the stability and prosperity of Serbia.

Minister Đurić, welcoming the first visit of a Japanese foreign minister to Serbia, expressed his satisfaction and gratitude for Japan’s solidarity and donations over the past 25 years. He underscored the longstanding partnership and cooperation between the two nations.

Đurić also praised the collaboration within the framework of Japan’s Western Balkans Initiative, expressing Serbia’s interest in making the initiative more prominent and using it as a platform for implementing concrete projects.
