In a ceremony held at the Serbian government, Zrenjanin was officially designated as Serbia’s Cultural Capital for 2025. The contract was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture Maja Gojković and Zrenjanin’s Mayor, Sima Salapura, marking a significant accolade for the city.

Gojković lauded Zrenjanin’s achievement, highlighting its innovative cultural program, “Meandri grada – tokovi kulture” (City Meanders – Streams of Culture), which seamlessly weaves the city’s rich tradition, multicultural fabric, and historical essence with contemporary flair, aimed at deepening cultural engagement among its citizens.

Emerging victorious among eight contenders, Zrenjanin has not only set a benchmark for cultural innovation but also made history as the first city in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina to clinch this prestigious national title. The minister praised the city’s exceptional proposal that stood out for its creativity and comprehensive cultural vision.

The initiative is ambitious, with plans to unveil around 100 cultural events, including 50 novel creations tailored for the 2025 celebrations. Additionally, the city is set to undergo a cultural facelift with ten infrastructural projects lined up, including the complete overhaul of the historic City Hall, poised to dazzle as a cultural beacon.

Zrenjanin will officially take over the mantle of Serbia’s Cultural Capital from Užice on March 21, 2025, embarking on a journey to spotlight its cultural legacy and innovative spirit on the national stage.
